A selection of Máté Balogh's new choral works can be heard on October 4 at the House of Hungarian Music.

The Classical Composition of the Year Award of Artisjus went 2023 to Máté Balogh's Sinfonia No. 1 and Bence Kutrik's choral work Song on a Spring Evening. The scores of both compositions have been published by UMP Editio Musica Budapest – congratulations to our authors!

Máté Balogh's Alabama March was commissioned by the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra of Alabama and Gregory Vajda. More than three years after its premiere in the USA, on January 29, 2023 the Hungarian premiere will take place at the Budapest Music Academy with Budafok Dohnányi Orchestra and Martin Rajna.

Máté Balogh, who is resident composer of the Győr Philharmonic Orchestra in the 2021–22 season, is preparing for two world premieres with the ensemble.

Danubia Orchestra Óbuda has commissioned three Hungarian composers to honour Bach’s The Art of Fugue with their music. The premiere takes place on January 30 at the Academy of Music, Budapest under the direction of Benjamin Bayl.

Máté Balogh will be the Composer-in-Residence of the Győr Philharmonic Orchestra in the 2021/2022 season: his first premiere, Raabertüre, will take place on September 24.

Since 2010, renowned Noh-singer, Ryoko Aoki, has organized Noh × Contemporary Music to commission international composers to write new pieces for Noh voice. In this year’s project, Máté Balogh’s composition, Matsuo Basho’s Song was among the commissioned works that were premiered on 14 May 2021 in Tokyo.

Bach’s The Art of Fugue has excited the general public and composers with its perfection and fragmentation for more than two hundred years. Now the Danubia Orchestra Óbuda has commissioned three Hungarian composers to express with their music what this masterpiece says to them today.

The 12 movements written by the three composers will be premiered in a kaleidoscopic arrangement, like a whole-evening collective composition, on November 20 at the Academy of Music, Budapest under the direction of Benjamin Bayl.

The beginning of Máté Balogh’s, Máté Bella’s, Péter Tornyai’s and Balázs Horváth’s musical career is in many ways tied to Péter Eötvös, who was their driving force in the past few years. It is therefore no surprise that the majority of the programme of the Peter Eötvös Contemporary Music Foundation’s (which Eötvös founded in 2004) concert in Zurich on 26 June consists of works composed between 2010 and 2016 by these young composers. Jam Quartet by Máté Balogh, Chuang Tzu’s Dream by Máté Bella, QuatreQuatuors by Péter Tornyai will be performed for the first time in Switzerland, pikokosmos = millikosmos by Balázs Horváth will be premiered in Zurich.
